FAQ

  • What is Ayurvedic Bodywork?

Ayurvedic bodywork is a holistic healing practice rooted in the ancient Indian system of Ayurveda. It includes therapies like Abhyanga (warm oil massage), Shirodhara (oil streaming on the forehead), and Kati vasti (lower back therapy), designed to balance the body, mind, and spirit.

  • How is Ayurvedic treatment different from regular massage?

Unlike Western massage, Ayurvedic bodywork uses warm, herbalized oils tailored to your dosha (body-mind constitution), and incorporates rhythmic, flowing downward strokes that support detoxification, nervous system regulation, deep nourishment and alignment.

  • What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session will include a short Ayurvedic intake to determine your dosha and current imbalances. Based on this, a customized treatment will be offered, usually involving warm oil massage and potentially other therapies. You’ll leave feeling grounded, relaxed, and deeply nourished.

  • Do I need to know my dosha before booking a session?

No, it’s not required. Your practitioner will help identify your dosha and current state of imbalance during your consultation so your session is personalized and effective.

  • What should I wear or bring to my session?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Ayurvedic bodywork involves the use of warm oils, so you may want to bring an extra set of clothes to change into afterward. We recommend not scheduling strenuous activity after your treatment to allow for integration and rest.

  • Can I receive Ayurvedic bodywork while pregnant?

Yes, with some modifications. Gentle Ayurvedic massage can be very supportive during pregnancy. Please let us know in advance so your session can be tailored appropriately and safely.

  • Is Ayurvedic bodywork suitable for everyone?

Most people can benefit, but those with certain conditions (fevers, acute illness, certain skin conditions, etc.) may need to wait. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us for guidance before booking.

  • How often should I receive Ayurvedic treatments?

This depends on your needs and wellness goals. Some clients come weekly for support with chronic conditions or stress, while others benefit from seasonal sessions or short series (like Panchakarma prep or post-travel recovery).

  • How do I book a session?

I always set up a brief 15 minute consultation prior to booking bodywork, to better understand how to customize the treatment for you. You can schedule this by contacting us or booking a 15 minute free call. We’re happy to answer any questions and help you find the right treatment for your needs.
